Canoe Lake
The best-known access point in Algonquin, where Tom Thomson painted, with portage routes heading north.
Canoe Lake sits just off Highway 60 at the Portage Store, and it is where many Algonquin trips begin. Tom Thomson painted here and his cairn stands on the shore. Day paddlers can circle the lake in a few hours; longer routes climb through Joe Lake or the portages toward Burnt Island Lake. Motors are limited, as in most of the park interior.
