This is a driving trip with short stops rather than a hiking itinerary. Summer weekends are busy at the beaches, so start early and book anything with a fixed time slot, such as a museum tour. Confirm opening hours for the historic sites before you go.

  1. Day 1Start on the Barrie waterfront and walk a stretch of the lakeshore trail, then visit the MacLaren Art Centre. Drive north to Orillia in the afternoon for the downtown and the waterfront parks, and stay the night in the Orillia or Midland area.
  2. Day 2Spend the morning at Sainte-Marie among the Hurons and Martyrs' Shrine in Midland, then continue to Discovery Harbour at Penetanguishene. Finish with a late swim or walk at one of the Wasaga or Awenda beaches if the weather holds.
