The pleasure of this trip is in the stops rather than the distance: a lock, an ice cream, a main street. Lock schedules change through the season, so check the times if you want to watch a boat work through. Book accommodation in Bobcaygeon or Fenelon Falls ahead in July and August.

  1. Day 1Start at the Peterborough Lift Lock and the Canadian Canoe Museum, then drive north through Lakefield to Bobcaygeon for the afternoon. Walk the lock and the main street, and stop for ice cream before settling in for the night.
  2. Day 2Continue to Fenelon Falls to watch the lock in the middle of the village and see the falls. Keep the afternoon loose: another lock, a swim, or a short paddle on one of the shallow lakes.
